Meghan Gan graduated from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) in 2024 with a B.S. in
Environmental Science and Management. While at UC Davis, she interned as a lab assistant and
conducted research on the element Boron, its pollutive impact on plant growth, and its
prevalence in local water and soil. Utilized TDR to test water and soil samples for the presence
of Boron and used Laser Diffraction to analyze soil particle size and the infiltration rate of the
soil. Contributions include analysis of the concentration of Boron and the quantity of water
needed to drain it out of the soil. Research is currently in progress and pending publication.
“Live That” is a Chinese Student Association delivering the latest news about campus and club
activities, citywide events, schoolwide policies, and new student resources. In the same year,
after graduating from UC Davis, she had the honor of becoming a full-time graduate student in
the Master of Science in Environmental Analysis (MSEA) program in the Rice University
Department of BioSciences. Meghan would like to focus on the environmental sustainability
focus area of the MSEA program, and she would like to intern in environmental consulting
related to contaminant fate and transport and regulatory support. She also participates in the Rice
Chinese Student and Scholar Association (RCSSA) as an editor. Meghan hopes that her graduate
studies at Rice will further enhance her professional abilities and lead to internships and job
opportunities in the environmental field.
