Ms. Debora Berhane-Mersha graduated from University of Houston-Clear Lake with a BS in Environmental Science in August 2011. Her focus area on environmental and occupational health and safety, and industrial hygiene provided her with the knowledge on various industrial processes and their effects on our environment. She participated in an internship working for an environmental consulting firm on air quality issues, and she gained work experience at Baylor College of Medicine as a research laboratory technician. Debora’s goal is to become the proficient and well-educated professional today’s companies seek to assist them in maximizing productivity in an environmentally responsible manner. Debora is focusing on sustainability and management during her studies at Rice, and accepted an internship with the Shell Center for Sustainability at Rice. She accepted employment with URS while continuing to finish her studies on a part-time basis. After graduation, Debora pursued an opportunity with UNIVAR ChemCare.
