Ms. Daria Ostrovsky graduated from Texas A&M University in 2021 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Psychology. While at A&M, she worked at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine with Dr. Gashev on a research project, where the main goal was to determine the correlation between basal levels of the activation of mast cells in rats and their response to acute challenge, after being exposed to chronic conditions. This research project could be used to design other studies for determining a more accessible way to find mast cell activation levels, which would help diagnose and treat chronic diseases in humans, as well as, preventing acute infections from causing harmful effects on the human body. After graduating from Texas A&M and before starting her Masters's at Rice University, Daria worked full-time at Retina Consultants of Texas ophthalmology clinic to expand her medical knowledge and to gain clinical experience, while also serving as the trainer to the new incoming ophthalmic technicians. Daria has chosen to enroll in the Professional Science Master’s program in Applied Chemical Sciences to contribute to medical research by studying enzymatic activities and their significance.
