Linda Delgado graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) with a B.S. in Aerospace Physiology. While at ERAU, she worked alongside Dr. Castillo and Dr. Chavez to research the physiological and metabolic responses of e. Coli when subjected to long-term simulated microgravity and ionizing radiation. This research demonstrated a difference in structural integrity of the E. coli and biofilm, which can lead to research on how occupying this biofilm development can provide a different approach to addressing spaceflight contamination.
Adding onto her academic foundations, she volunteered December 2020 alongside her peers, to help with early distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to medical staff in Advent Health, Daytona Beach.
She also worked with Dr. French to research the effects of hypoxia on the vestibular system. In its early stages, this research showed a link between spatial disorientation and hypoxia and it suggested pilots may suffer hypoxic symptoms at lower altitudes than the ones the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) suggests. During her time as an undergraduate, Linda also participated in two IEEE conferences hosted by Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia in Michoacan, Mexico as a speaker on “The Negative Effects of Long-Term Space Flight on the Central Nervous System”.
It was during her time as an undergraduate when she found a passion for space and extreme environments, pushing her to continue with her career in the aerospace industry and enrolling in the Professional Science Master’s program in Space Studies.
