Camilla Purdy graduated from Texas A&M University in 2024 with a B.S. in Environmental
Studies and minors in Sociology and Geography. During her undergraduate studies, she was
actively involved in student-led environmental organizations, contributing to campus initiatives
that promoted sustainability and environmental awareness. As a Sustainability Intern at the
Moody Center in Austin, Texas, Purdy developed a comprehensive waste diversion system to
reduce the center’s carbon footprint and established a sustainability team to ensure compliance
with new environmentally conscious policies. Purdy’s research projects evaluating microalgal
biofuels as a sustainable fossil fuel alternative and the use of Apis mellifera honey as a
bioindicator for toxic metals has deepened her passion for environmental problem-solving. She is
particularly interested in intersectional environmentalism and society environment relations. At
Rice University, Purdy intends to further specialize in Environmental Sustainability while
pursuing a M.S. in Environmental Analysis. Purdy aims to enter the consulting and management
field, where she will address critical environmental issues and advance sustainable practices.
