Ms. Madiha Syeda graduated from the University of Memphis in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and minors in Biology and Chemistry. During her undergraduate studies, she contributed to multiple research conferences and publications, exploring oxytocin’s role in addiction, investigating thin-film coatings for biosensing applications, and contributing to the development of a hydrogel for controlled therapeutic drug release in infection sites. She is currently working in research in Dr. A-K Gustavsson’s lab at Rice University and Houston Methodist Hospital, where she uses single-molecule imaging techniques to study cell transport and molecular dynamics. Madiha also served as a Student Government Association senator and as vice president of her university’s pre-health organization, where she enacted campus legislative bills to improve disability and mental health accessibility, promote cultural inclusion, and provide academic support. She also worked as an Emergency Department Scribe and interned in the NICU, Internal Medicine Clinic, and Postpartum Care Unit. She is pursuing the Master of Science in Bioscience and Health Policy to further her goal of integrating research, clinical practice, and health policy to promote equitable healthcare outcomes, with the plan to pursue a career as a physician.
