Ms. Hotard graduated from Rhodes College in 2014 with honors with a B.S. in Chemistry, honors research, and a minor in International Studies. She earned the status of Rhodes Fellow through her participation in the St. Jude SummerPlus Program where she conducted research in the Chemical Biology and Therapeutics department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis,TN. While at St. Jude she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Rivas developing methods for the ongoing Natural Products Project including extracting and verifying compounds from terrestrial plants with known medicinal capabilities. Her work with this project contributed to a publication in the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. Megan came to Rice University in July 2014 as a doctoral student in the Chemistry department to continue her training in synthetic organic chemistry under the mentorship of Dr. Tour as an NSF IRISE fellow. There she analyzed various synthetic routes for the Uni-molecular Submersible Nano-machines Project in preparation for upcoming cellular work, however, realizing that research was too narrow-focused for her interest, Megan transferred to the Professional Science Masters program in the Bioscience and Health Policy track at Rice University in August 2015 to pursue her interest in science and health policy. She plans to graduate in May 2017 with the tools to make a tangible impact in the healthcare industry. Megan started an internship with Doctors for Change, and followed it with a second internship at UTMB in Galveston, TX. After graduation, Megan joined DavaOncology in Dallas as a Medical Writer.
