Machkhas

Tayma Machkhas received a B.S. in Public Health and Anthropology with a minor in Medicine and Society from the Honors College at the University of Houston. During her senior year at the University of Houston, Tayma had the opportunity to intern with the Lifetime Surveillance of Astronaut Health (LSAH) at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Since graduating, she has continued to work full-time with the LSAH and the Life Sciences Data Archives (LSDA) as a science coordinator. In this role, she aids researchers with obtaining retrospective medical and research astronaut data, all while maintaining subject privacy and ensuring appropriate approvals and guidelines are met. Results from the analysis of secondary data allows NASA programs to develop and tailor their policies and technologies in ways that prioritize the mitigation and prevention of spaceflight-related health risks. Tayma has enrolled in the Professional Science Master’s Program in Bioscience and Health Policy to continue her pursuit in better understanding the role of science and research in sound policymaking, and how that applies to the space industry and beyond.
