Mr. Joseph Mathis graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2021with a B.A. in Biology. While at St. Edward’s, he worked in the lab of Dr. Daniel Gold where he conducted research on host-parasite interactions of the invertebrate parasites called Gregarines, which are both evolutionarily and mechanically similar to the human parasite Cryptosporidium. After graduating, he became a middle school science teacher for Houston ISD where he had the privilege to work with immigrant and underserved students. These cross disciplinary experiences have cultivated a passion for educating and training people within the realm of science. Mr. Mathis developed a passion for leadership and pharmaceuticals throughout his experiences in the lab and classroom which have led him to enrolling in Rice University’s Professional MS program in Applied Chemical Sciences. During his time at Rice, he hopes to enhance his leadership skills as well as learn more about the pharmaceutical industry and develop managerial skills to assist him in future career goals.
