Commitment to Cultural Inclusiveness
Rice seeks a community that comprises a breadth of knowledge, thought, perspectives, experiences and backgrounds and permits us to achieve excellence in all facets of our mission. Campuswide, Rice University is developing knowledge, insights, resources and policy tools to increase equity and advance the quality of life, in Houston and around the world.
Rice is prioritizing initiatives and programs that promote equity. From collaborating directly with Houston public schools to designing low-cost health technologies, to offering free online college textbooks — Rice students, staff and faculty are leading efforts that circumvent traditional roadblocks and distribute knowledge and practical solutions to the people who need it most.
We not only celebrate but actively seek out broad diversity across our PSM student body as a central and meaningful part of the Rice PSM experience. We believe that educational diversity increases the intellectual vitality of education, scholarship, service, and student life at Rice. Lindsey Hodge, Senior Program Administrator, is a member of the Department of BioSciences Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee to ensure that the PSM program’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are always evolving based on progress made and new challenges that need to be faced.

#1 Most Ethnically Diversity City in the U.S.
We consider Houston an essential part of the education we offer to students as an urban university. With more than 145 languages spoken here in the fourth largest city, Rice places students directly in the center of one of the most diverse, culturally rich cities in America. Located in an urban environment on a 300-acre tree-lined campus, Rice University seizes its advantageous position to pursue pathbreaking research and create innovative collaboration opportunities that contribute to the betterment of our world.
Rice faculty, staff and students share values that are essential to our success as a healthy community. Those values guide our decisions and behaviors and shape Rice’s culture. They come through in the way we treat each other and the welcome we extend to our visitors. These values can be recalled simply by our name — RICE — Responsibility, Integrity, Community and Excellence.
